Login to the staging site admin of the site to be updated
Update Software in the following order (if updates are available):
WordPress Theme
WordPress Plugins, in batches of 5 or by "related plugins"
WordPress Core
Update high-risk plugins alone if possible
Clear the sites caches
Review the homepage + 1 other page in an incognito browser to check for major layout issues or critical website errors. **Specific pages may be listed in the task
If there are no issues:
Proceed to update the live site - take a backup before doing updates on the live site
Repeat steps 2-6 for the live site
If there are major issues while updating stagin:
Notify team of update error
What error you noticed
What update type/plugin did you attempt before noticing the error
If there are major issues on the live site:
Restore the most recent backup available with the following considerations:
Some high-risk sites may note in the task that backups are not to be restored.
Local backups will restore faster. Check if these are as recent as Backblaze
